Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer required in Cape Town.

You’ll work in a hands-on senior capacity, responsible for the systems that keep the business running. From virtualisation and storage to networking, databases, security, and disaster recovery, you’ll have the autonomy to shape infrastructure standards and drive meaningful improvements across the estate.

Location: Century City, Cape Town – Hybrid.

Salary: R75,000 CTC per month.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of the organisation’s infrastructure, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, and security.
• Drive ongoing improvements by simplifying environments, reducing risk, and strengthening operational resilience.
• Manage servers, storage platforms, networking equipment, firewalls, virtual machines, and supporting infrastructure.
• Maintain, patch, harden, and upgrade Linux-based systems across production and development environments.
• Administer virtualised platforms, including capacity planning, lifecycle management, and high availability.
• Manage storage environments, snapshots, replication strategies, and backup solutions.
• Oversee network security, VPNs, firewall policies, segmentation, and connectivity across multiple locations.
• Support and enhance identity management and single sign-on solutions.
• Maintain and optimise high-availability database environments.
• Ensure infrastructure documentation, recovery procedures, and operational runbooks remain current and accurate.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery processes.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and IT teams to support business and platform objectives.
• Participate in a shared after-hours support rotation when required.

Requirements:

• Essential Experience
  • Degree or Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Administration, or IT Operations.
  • 2+ years operating at a senior or lead level.
  • Strong Linux administration experience across enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience managing virtualisation platforms such as Proxmox, VMware, or Xen.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing, switching, and firewalls.
  • Experience with storage administration, replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Exposure to high-availability environments and clustering technologies.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and observability tools.
  • Scripting and automation experience using Bash and/or Python.
  • Experience working within structured change management and delivery environments.
  • Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Advantageous
  • Relevant infrastructure, systems, networking, or cloud certifications would be beneficial.
  • Cloud platform experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Identity and access management platforms such as Authentik, Keycloak, or WSO2.
  • Configuration management using Ansible.
  • Security hardening, auditing, IDS/IPS, and compliance exposure.
  • PKI and certificate lifecycle management.
  • Experience within regulated or security-focused environments.
