Senior AWS Solutions Architect – Cape Town

A remote Senior AWS Solutions Architect position is available in Cape Town, Western Cape.

A Senior AWS Solutions Architect is required by a Managed Services company in Cape Town to work 100% remote.

Technical Degree (BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent) with AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification;

7 Years+ Experience as a conventional Solutions Architect/Software Engineer (2 Tier, 3 Tier and Distributed Architectures/Systems);

2 Years+ Experience in AWS Solutions Architecture and AWS PreSales;

1 Year+ Experience in performing AWS Well Architected Reviews is required.

You will focus on Migration Readiness Assessments (MRAs), AWS Proposals / Quotations and to a larger extend, Well Architected Reviews (WARs/WARFs) for clients. Ensure thorough evaluations are done to assess clients’ readiness to migrate to the AWS Cloud based on the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework, propose solutions to migrating to the AWS Cloud, evaluating workloads in the AWS Cloud against the AWS Well Architected Framework and provide quotations to remediate existing workloads in the AWS Cloud.

Key Responsibilities – Senior AWS Solutions Architect:

• Performing Migration Readiness Assessments (MRAs)
• Performing Well Architected Reviews for existing production workloads (60% of the time)
• Leading Technical Discovery calls with clients to understand their existing solutions as part of requirements gathering exercises.
• Participate in architectural/engineering discussions to ensure solutions are designed and articulated for successful deployments in the AWS cloud.
• Taking ownership of actionable items from Technical Discovery calls/Well Architected Reviews to delivering the AWS Proposals/Quotations, end-to-end.
• Architecting and costing solutions in the AWS cloud based on our clients’ implementation/migration requirements.
• Aligning proposed AWS solutions to the AWS Well Architected Framework to ensure Operational
• Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency and Cost Optimization are in incorporated.
• Aligning proposed AWS Solutions/Proposals to AWS best practices.
• Contributing to customer-facing publications such as blogs and Case Studies to provide insights and achievements.
• Help provide training sessions to transfer knowledge to customers considering or already using AWS.
• Ability to take lead from a Solution Architecture perspective to ensure proper guidance to our clients.

Requirements – Senior AWS Solutions Architect:

• Technical Degree (BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent)
• AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification.
• Excellent Client facing skills to understand, translate and map solutions to AWS and in AWS.
• 7 Years+ Experience as a conventional Solutions Architect/Software Engineer (2 Tier, 3 Tier and
  Distributed Architectures/Systems)
• 2 Years+ Experience in AWS Solutions Architecture and AWS PreSales
• 1 Year+ Experience in performing AWS Well Architected Reviews
• 1 Year+ Experience in performing Migration Readiness Assessments
• Thorough understanding of the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework and AWS Well Architected Framework
• Ability to effectively exchange information, news, ideas and meaning in business and technical environments
• Experience/Exposure to Windows/Linux Operating Systems, File Systems and Directory Services.
• Thorough understanding of Databases (Relational & NoSQL).
• Experience in at least 3 of the following database technologies: MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL,
• PostgreSQL, MariaDB, DynamoDB and MongoDB
• Experience/Exposure to Web Applications/PWAs and how they fit into the cloud.
• Experience/Exposure to AWS Serverless technologies with their benefits and drawback to conventional cloud compute.
• Experience/Exposure with DevOps Tools (Conventional and AWS Cloud) – CodeBuild, CodeDeploy and CodePipeline.
• Experience/Exposure with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools – Terraform/CloudFormation
• Ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly
