A renowned Manufacturing Engineering company is looking for a Radiometric Metrologist to join their team on a full-time permanent basis in the Helderberg Area.

The purpose of the role is to ensure the accuracy and reliability of aerospace measurement instruments through precise calibration and maintenance.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Industrial Physics
• 1 – 3 years of experience in a relevant engineering field
• Experience in spectral & radiometric measurements
• Handling and Adjusting Delicate Instruments
• Proficiency in Spectroscopy Concepts
• Microsoft Office
• Python Software
• Understanding of radiometric principles
• Proficiency in sensor calibration technique
• Knowledge of traceability standards
• Familiarity with optical payloads & data
• Ability to interpret sensor specifications & performance metrics
• Competence in remote sensing software
• Skills in data correction, computer vision, radiometric normalisation, & image quality assessment
• Knowledge of electronic circuits, signal processing, quantum efficiency, & instrument interfacing
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in pre-launch characterization, verification and testing
• Understanding of quality control procedures in calibration and testing environments
• Familiarity with space industry standards (e.g., ECSS, ISO, EMVA1288, IEEE, PTB, CEOS)
• Ability to document and maintain calibration logs, test reports, and compliance records
• Training in cleanroom procedures, ESD protection, and safe handling of optical components
• Awareness of radiation safety and non-destructive testing protocols

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform spectral & radiometric measurements
• Perform pre-launch & in-orbit radiometric calibration of optical & multispectral sensors
• Develop & execute calibration protocols
• Maintain calibration records & ensure traceability to international standards
• Capture characterisation datasets used to calibrate the products radiometrically & geometrically
• Collect & analyse data to produce reports and optimised recommendations
• Monitor incoming payload data
• Apply correction algorithms to raw data
• Collaborate with data scientists & remote sensing analysts
• Maintain detailed technical documentation, calibration logs, & operational procedures
• Ensure compliance with SANSA, ITU, & other relevant regulatory bodies
• Support audits & reviews
• Ensure all instruments meet set safety & quality standards
• Adhere to safety procedures & guidelines
• Stay updated with the latest technological advancements & industry standards
• Work as part of a team to solve problems of scientific & technological interest
