We give you autonomy over the software you build and offer you the freedom to choose the right tool for the job. In return, we expect you to take (e2e) ownership of the systems you build, and that means:

• You’re responsible for the operational health of your services
• You’re empowered and encouraged to fix operational issues (i.e. there will be space for improvement work and bug fixes in the sprints). We are using a microservices architecture and everything is hosted in AWS.
• We use a combination of both containers as well as serverless, and many managed AWS services including DynamoDB, API Gateway, ECS, Lambda and much more.
• Our teams mainly use NodeJS to build our backend systems, therefore, experience with JavaScript would be great! However, we hire tech agnostically as we believe in hiring problem solvers!
• If you can contribute to our engineering challenge then we would be happy to teach you the tools necessary to be successful with us.

The team you will be joining is a JavaScript team developing and maintaining backend and frontend services. Our stack includes NodeJS, React, Docker, AWS (including Dynamo, OpenSearch, ECS and Lambda), and Terraform. We also do our own testing using Jest and Cypress.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of experience
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model
• Thorough understanding of React.js and its core principles
• Thorough understanding of NodeJS and its core principles
• Experience with popular React.js workflows (such as Flux or Redux)
• Familiarity with newer specifications of EcmaScript
• Familiarity with Docker containers
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools
• Familiarity with AWS Services
• Familiarity with IaC like Terraform or CloudFormation

As our new Fullstack Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Continually improve software deployment to ensure iterative releases and rapid deployment of updates
• Experience optimizing web applications including concepts like layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility
• Work on large-scale front-end web applications
• Work on large-scale backend services
• Collaborate with other Software Engineers to help deliver compelling user-facing products
• Share knowledge with other developers across the business

You’ll be set up for success if you have:

• Experience with ReactJS
• Ability to work with Vanilla JavaScript
• Understanding of all aspects of software delivery (from designing to development, code review, testing, and operations)
• CI / CD and testing approaches such as TDD
• Ability to effectively communicate technical ideas to others
• Pragmatic application of design patterns
• A passion for creating great user experiences

Even better if you have:

• Experience MobX
• Understanding of Micro-Frontends
• Used TypeScript
• NodeJS
• AWS (including Dynamo, OpenSearch, ECS and Lambda), and Terraform.

NOTE: You don’t need to be an expert in all those technologies, but a willingness to learn and basic knowledge in some would be a benefit.

Success Criteria:

• To be successful in this position, you should have a good understanding of vanilla JavaScript and have experience with unit tests.
• You have demonstrated the ability to use common industry tools for software development including but not limited to IDEs, build and continuous integration, source control management, code review tools, data storage services, and cloud infrastructure, and you are able to build software in a professional team environment delivered to production using these tools.
• You are able to take documented designs prepared by more experienced engineers and contribute code to implement the design working solo or with other engineers together.
• You are able to provide technical documentation describing your contributions and contribute enhancements to your team’s best practices.
