Director of Engineering (Software) Full Time Job

Director of Engineering (Software) required in Johannesburg.

A leading global payments technology organisation is looking for an experienced Director of Engineering & Customer Success to lead a team of 12+ engineering and customer success professionals.

The role combines technical leadership, software engineering, customer implementation and commercial delivery. The successful candidate will be technically credible, hands-on and comfortable engaging directly with software engineers, architects, banks and enterprise customers.

Salary: R1.8 – R2 million per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a team of 12+ engineering and customer success professionals.
• Oversee software engineering, embedded payment solutions, integrations and technical delivery.
• Manage customer implementations, UAT, go-live and post-deployment support.
• Act as the senior technical escalation point for key customers.
• Build strong relationships with banking and enterprise customers.
• Ensure technical delivery meets customer and commercial requirements.
• Partner with Sales on solution design, proposals and new business opportunities.
• Drive engineering best practices, processes and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

• 10+ years’ experience in software engineering, technical delivery or engineering leadership.
• Strong technical background in software development, embedded systems and/or networking.
• Proven experience managing engineering/technical teams of 10+ people.
• Experience with complex software implementations, integrations and UAT.
• Strong customer-facing experience, preferably within payments, FinTech, banking or enterprise technology.
• Ability to engage at software, code and architecture level.
• Experience with Jira, Jenkins and similar engineering tools.
• Strong communication, leadership and commercial skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Payment terminal / embedded payment experience will be highly advantageous.

This is an in-office senior leadership role for a technically strong engineering leader who can combine technical expertise, people leadership and customer success.
