DevOps / Systems Administrator – Cape Town

An experienced DevOps / Systems Administrator position is available in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

Calling all DevOps looking for a new challenge. This is an excellent opportunity for a DevOps / Systems Administrator looking to showcase and develop their expertise with an established Software Development business based near Tyger Valley in Cape Town.

This is not a corporate environment and whilst we cannot afford fat corporate salaries, we are able to offer revenue sharing of projects we work on. We are looking for someone that has passion for coding and not just someone who is trying to chase the biggest pay cheques.

Some Brief Info:

• We are a small company with 32 staff of which 9 are on the coding team. The rest are support, admin and sales.
• It all started with a request from a client to develop something for his business that ended up being a locally installed MSSQL database using VB.Net. Now we have the privilege of serving over 400 hundred customers with a combined user base of over 4000 across SA.
• We started helping clients with their websites and ended up sending data from the locally installed databases to their PostGreSQL and Angular websites. We manage over 200 websites.
• We send data to and from ourselves and multiple 3rd parties through the use of API’s and XML files.
• We provide a cloud hosted solution that is slowly replacing the local database solution. There’s some rocket science here that needs a clever brain on top of the devops and sys admin.
• We have over 17 servers, using a combination of Linux and Windows and most are dedicated cloud server solutions.
• We have our own mobile app that works in real time with the clients locally installed database and there is an abundance of opportunity to be of even greater service in this specific area.
• We have not even scratched the surface of all the products and services we wish to present to our customers.
• We need some help from a like minded individual that can form part of a brilliant development team.

Key Responsibilities – Devops / Systems Administrator:

• System administration of Linux and Windows environments.
• Configuration, security, maintenance, backups, monitoring.
• Assist with deployment of software and production environments in cloud.
• Be very comfortable with setting up, deploying to and monitoring cloud infrastructure.
• Manage databases (deploy, optimise, backup, configure, monitor).
• Patch and upgrade management of servers, paid products, and developed products/services.
• Manage server security.
• Configuration management.
• Functional monitoring of the ecosystem.

Personal Attributes – DevOps / Systems Administrator:

• Willingness to help team members when needed.
• At least three years of experience in a DevOps role.
• Linux Server administration experience and skills. This will be tested.
• Be very comfortable with setting up, deploying to and monitoring cloud infrastructure
• Practical experience with CI/CD and container technologies
• Avid follower of IaC will be an advantage
• Python and Bash scripting.
• Database management will be an advantage
• Practical understanding of distributed/high volume systems architecture and management
• System monitoring tools
