To protect the enterprise & client data by performing backup and restore activities.
Education and Experience required:
- Degree / diploma in Information Technology (BSc or BComm preferred) or equivalent (suitably qualified as articulated in the Employment Equity Act)
- Relevant vendor certifications would be an advantage
- Backup infrastructure and products (e.g. tape libraries, VTLs, Data Domain)
- Backup management software e.g. NetBackup (preferred), TSM, Legato
- Backup and restore operations
- Operating systems and systems software (Unix, Linux and Windows)
- Database backups (especially Oracle and SQL)
Skills and Competencies
- Backup management software (NetBackup preferred) and knowledge of database backups (Oracle and SQL)
- Tape and virtual tape library hardware configuration, installation, maintenance and management
- Backup and retention principles
- Information protection and information life cycle management principles
- Disaster recovery procedures and principles
- Device channel connectivity, including HBAs
- Operating Systems and System Software (Unix, Win)
- Backup reporting
- Knowledge of storage, especially zoning, would be an advantage
- Initiative – Shows initiative and makes time available to ensure general technical competencies and specializations are kept up to date and in line with industry developments
- Builds relationships – The ability to build and sustain relationships with key individuals on the basis of openness and trust
- Communication - Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with subordinates, colleagues, and customers at all levels

Key areas of responsibility:
- Backup and restore servers and databases as per requirements and policies
- Manage hardware and software so that usage is optimal, with non-utilised hardware and software identified
- Uphold backup management policies, processes and standards
- Adhere to Incident, Problem and Change Management principles
- Backup report management and client communication
- Keep Disaster Recovery procedures current and optimised
- Manage customer relations in line with SLAs
- Provide technical support for backup environments
