Purpose:
Under supervision of the Technical Manager, installs, configures maintains, troubleshoots & upgrades server infrastructure, software & databases to ensure 24/7 365 availability to all systems; Proactively monitor server & database performance & provide capacity mgmt; Make recommendations regarding hardware & software acquisitions & provide input into Server / infrastructure architectural designs; prepares/maintains documentation & provides user assistance to HST customer staff; & performs related work as required. Must be located in Cape Town & be prepared to travel if required throughout SA and assist in projects in other regions from time to time.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Installation, configuration and support of Microsoft server operating systems.
Performance & capacity monitoring for Microsoft platforms using MS System Centre.
Server security configuration & management.
Installation, configuration & maintenance of Microsoft Cluster Servers.
Installation, configuration & maintenance of Citrix presentation server.
Configuration & maintenance of Citrix zones.
Monitoring of Citrix servers / sessions using Citrix Edge-sight.
SAN / NAS Installation, configuration & maintenance.
LUN configuration & sizing.
Microsoft SQL server configuration & admin.
Intersystems Cache database installation, configuration & admin.
Intersystems Ensemble installation, configuration & admin.
Oracle database admin.
Installation, configuration & support of Linux operating systems. ( Red-Hat, SuSE, Ubuntu)
Performance & capacity monitoring for Linux platforms.
Linux server security configuration & Mgmt.
Samba configuration.
Installation, configuration & maintenance of VMware & Citrix XenServer.
Netware / Novell server admin & maintenance.
Fujitsu Blade frame system Installation, configuration & maintenance.
Network installation, configuration & continuous monitoring.
Diagnosis of network issues, monitoring switches, routers and Network cards.
Installation, configuration and maintenance of 25 Fujitsu stand-alone servers throughout the Western Cape running Linux / Netware.
General hardware and software support;
Backup software installation and maintenance.(Backup exec);
Perl and shell scripting;
Virus software installation, updating, and monitoring;
Assist with technical architecture design.
Prepare documentation and specifications.
General technical problem solving;
After-hours standby and support;
Travel to customer location to perform any of the above ( throughout SA);
Travel to central computer centre to perform any of the above;
After hours work as and when required.

Qualification and Experience:
A Degree or BTech in Information Systems or an IT related Diploma & 5 years related experience. MCSE and Red-Hat Linux Certification preferable. Own vehicle and valid driver’s license required.
