Senior IT Engineer required for growing company based in Woodmead.
Main objective:
- Responsible for the administration of a large complex system/network infrastructure.
- Ensuring production machines are available.
- Responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the Server and Storage Infrastructure.
- Systems and Applications include, but are not limited to, HP Storage Area Network, UNIX/Linux and Windows-based OS and SQL Databases, and external web servers.
- Installs and configures Windows, Unix, and Linux fileservers and departments' desktops.
- Test, debug and check for program efficiency.
- Maintains system backups and software.
- Maintains and expands knowledge of computer software and hardware, as well as computing standards and environments, system administration, file, and software security of desktop and Unix network systems.
- Manages operation of LAN printers and other network devices.
- Manages remote-access devices to departmental services.
- Experience with infrastructure design and network documentation.
- Analyzes and interprets IT departmental applications at all levels. Determines appropriate hardware enhancements and software requirements to make systems operational. Provides technical advice and statistical analysis to Head of IT.
- Configure computer systems #servers and workstations# for security, interactive use, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and growth.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures in regards to configurations, installations and systems for IT staff.
- Responsible for ensuring department adheres to software licensing requirements.
- Manage infrastructure projects as assigned by the Head of IT.
- Maintain and support department network security infrastructure.
- Integrate systems security best practices throughout the system infrastructure. Implement appropriate access restrictions #ACL's#, firewall rule sets and other controls that meet user and policy requirements. Perform audits to identify network hardware / software that does not meet campus security standards.
- Help troubleshoot network issues, support cross-organizational efforts, take part in on-call duties and respond to critical situations. Resolving critical system issues on a basis including notification, escalation and co-ordination across organizations and government agencies.
- Inform Network administrators, Help Desk Members, and Developers appraised of infrastructure changes.
- Needs to have change control experience and experience with implementing change control systems.
- Providing Systems Administration for a broad scope of different technologies #approximately Windows Servers, Linux Servers, as well as Web Servers, SAN, Cisco firewalls, and switches.
- Maintaining the operating system and utility software on all network computer platforms #Windows domain, Windows Server, tape backup, Active Directory, Group Policy, Linux/Unix servers, etc.# by analyzing, designing, installing, scripting, testing and documenting new functionality.
- Troubleshooting various parts of the architecture in the event of system failures
- Planning, testing, and executing upgrades as necessary to maintain support or improve functionality in a high availability environment #including Linux and Windows servers, web servers, , certificate authorities, firewalls, etc#.
- Using LDAP Directory to store and manage PowerShell to automate the execution of tasks as needed
Providing input to and supporting new client initiatives such as
- enhancing system audit capabilities;
- enhancing and developing intrusion prevention and detection;
- vulnerability scanning;
- Network operating systems upgrades;
- patch management functionality
